Yindi Sanctuary

About Yindi Sanctuary

Where endangered wildlife still roams free

Nestled in the temperate forests of the Barrington Tops, New South Wales, Yindi Sanctuary is one of Aussie Ark’s most precious landscapes. Unlike many sanctuaries that begin with repairing damaged ecosystems, Yindi is different, it protects a landscape that is still thriving.

Already home to endangered and vulnerable wildlife, including the New Holland Mouse, Sugar Gliders, Brush-Tailed Phascogales, native lizards and Honeyeaters, Yindi is alive with potential. By safeguarding this landscape now, we have the rare chance to protect species before they vanish, and to preserve a healthy ecosystem for generations to come.

Why Yindi Matters

Australia has lost more mammals than any other continent, and even healthy ecosystems remain vulnerable to threats like feral predators, invasive weeds, fire and erosion. Without active management, these pressures can tip the balance and undo centuries of natural resilience.

Yindi Sanctuary represents a different kind of conservation story — one of prevention, protection and resilience. Instead of trying to rebuild what has already been lost, we can secure a landscape where endangered animals still roam free. By keeping threats out and maintaining natural systems, Yindi offers hope not just for the species living here today, but for the future of Australia’s forests.

The sanctuary is already critical for the survival of the endangered New Holland Mouse, one of Australia’s rarest rodents, which continues to find refuge in Yindi’s intact habitat. By managing predators, restoring vegetation and reducing fire risk, we can ensure that this species, along with many others, continues to thrive.

Protecting Yindi is about more than conserving a single species — it’s about preserving a functioning ecosystem and giving future generations the chance to inherit a richer, wilder world.
